2005 NZ Air Guitar Champ air-sult on World titles...

Miss Giesela ‘Gizzy Guitar’ Visser (pic
above), 2005 NZ
Air Guitar Championships (NZAGC) National Champ
from
Auckland,
was beaten by a bee's dick at
the 2005 10th Annual Air Guitar
World Championships (AGWC), Oulu, Finland, Saturday
27/8/05.
'Gizzy'
scored 34.1 pt's to take out second place to new World champ
Michael "Destroyer" Heffels (Holland) 34.3 pt's.
Now etched in history, ‘Gizzy’s’ 2005 NZAGC
win was sweet but not easy due to very stiff competition
from fellow regional champions including: Josh ‘Black Betty’
Betty (WELL), Ryan "Dynamite" Adams (PALM
NTH),
Kent ‘Riffmeister’
Heriott (INVER) &
Dominic ‘The Dominator’ Murphy (C/CURCH).
‘Gizzy’s’ high energy and unique performance
gave her the slightest of edges over second place getter &
three times Waikato Champion Bradley ‘Bradley Boy Holmes’
Holmes (HAM) & third place getter Ben ‘Hell-Mutt’ Greaney (TARANAKI).

2004 NZ & World Champion, Tarquin ‘The
Tarkness’ Keys from Tauranga, was a judge at the 05 NZAGC
National Final & stated ‘should ‘Gizzy’ pull off the same
performance as she did tonight she has a massive chance of
taking out the title at the World Champs’.
AUCKLAND:
Giesela Visser aka ‘Gizzy Guitar’. This name is sure
to ring a bell amongst the NZ Air Guitar community as
‘Gizzy’ represented Auckland in the 2003 National Final.
Soon after her stunning performance in 2003 ‘Gizzy’ headed
for Finland, the spiritual base of the World Air Guitar
Champs. Here ‘Gizzy’ was just another Air Guitarist and
treated as such. She fought hard for her corner of a little
street in Helsinki where she busked every night to raise
life funds and to ultimately find what she was really in
search of… the ‘eye of the tiger’! Look out NZ, ‘Gizzy’ is
back with an extreme Air Guitar makeover in tow!!
HAMILTON:
Bradley Holmes aka ‘Bradley Boy Holmes'. He’s once,
twice, three times a Hamilton Air Guitar Champion… & he
loves you! Yet another NZ Air Guitar stalwart, ‘Bradley Boy
Holmes’ in returning for his 3rd consecutive shot
at the national title. More hungry then ever after his
narrow lose to ‘The Tarkness’ in the 2004 national final the
‘Boy’ is set to blow up big time in order to secure gold in
2005.
TARANAKI:
Ben Greaney aka ‘Hell-Mutt’. After a hard fought
contest ‘Hell-Mutt’, a car detailer by day and absolute rock
pig by night, took out the Naki title for 2005. Victory was
sweat but not easy with stiff competition from Jenna
"Disturbed" Jensen (2nd) & seasoned veteran Scott
"Noodles" Fletcher (3rd). ‘Hell-Mutt’ played
Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Sunshine of your love’ in the free round &
was a clear favourite in the eyes of many from the moment he
walked on stage in his GnR t-shirt and perfectly grown curly
mullet.
WELLINGTON:
Josh Betty aka ‘Black Betty’. A new comer to the NZ
Air Guitar scene, ‘Black Betty’, like many others
encountered a rough road to victory with very righteous
competition from fellow contestants resulting in the top
three being separated by the narrowest of margins.
Fortunately, for some, unlike the heats there was no nudity,
except for the scantly clad Bulleit Bourbon girls who had
everybody charging. ‘Black Betty’ played Sweet Child of
mine by ‘GnR’ in the free round. One of the dark horses in
this year’s final, the part time muso has a liking to all
music and is currently studying media and English.
PALMERSTON NORTH:
Ryan "Dynamite" Adams. Entering the NZAGC for the
first time, ‘Dynamite’, has no time for any music but good
old fashioned rock n roll!! A real action man, whose
hobbies include extreme white water kayaking, ‘Dynamite’, is
studying Adventure Eco Tourism. Yet another one of the dark
horses in this year’s competition, ‘Dynamite’ is set to make
a huge impression at the national final with his high energy
and colourful air guitar style.
INVERCARGILL:
Kent Heriot taka ‘Riffmeister’.
With influences taken from Backstreet boys, 3 doors down and
Offal Stench (prior 2002), &, a style described as ‘triple
switch shift riff miff’, only big things could be expected
from ‘Riffmeister’! A lover of metal music ‘Riffmeister’
blew all and sundry away with his stirring rendition of
‘Feelso’ by Sevendust. An apprentice builder and avid
basketballer ‘Riffmeister’ is shooting for ‘nothing but air’
at this years national final.
CHRISTCHURCH:
Dominic Murphy aka ‘The Dominator’. In a cold and damp
Christchurch night, Air Guitarists and fans gathered in the
cauldron of the “Grail”. Hosts Dominick, Tracey and Jason
from “The Rock FM kicked the event off in fine form and
gathered together performers to challenge for the right to
represent the fine region of Canterbury. Alas only one
winner could progress and after a hard fought air assault
‘The Dominator’ came out on top by the slimmest of margins
to ‘Kat’ (2nd) with ‘Big Timmy’ (3rd).
‘Dominator’ features a classic style of Air Guitar with old
school attitude and a love of heavy rock music.
